About EVA MOHEBAN

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles and my Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California.

​I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with extensive experience working with those who struggle with self-esteem, body image, eating disorders, addiction, self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation, peer group and family conflicts, and depression and anxiety.

​I also welcome couples or families who are seeking to restore harmony within their intimate relationship or family system. Here, my technique includes exploring and bringing to conscious awareness the relational-patterns and communication blockages that have endured over time, thereby paving the way for deeper and more meaningful relationships.

​I am trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), ASSIST Suicide Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Feminist-Therapy, and Seeking Safety. I have sought out additional trainings geared towards providing services to specific sub-groups—such as the transgender, LGBTQ+, Domestic Violence, and Middle Eastern Communities—so to provide more culturally-sensitive treatment.

In my practice, I use a holistic approach to psychotherapy, which allows me to weave several modalities into treatment, in an effort to attend to the whole-person. Throughout therapy, we will explore the connection between various emotional, physical, social, cultural, and spiritual dysfunctions, in order to promote recovery in these realms. My intention is always to maintain a safe, collaborative, and strength-based environment where new ideas can take the place of maladaptive thoughts and coping strategies that no longer serve you. With these tools, it is my hope that you will design a more fulfilling existence, find greater self-esteem, generate acceptance and feel a sense of agency over your life.

Theoretical Frameworks Informing My Practice:

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
IPT is an empirically validated treatment for a variety of psychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, women’s issues (e.g., Postpartum Depression), grief and loss issues, role transitions, and interpersonal discord, using an attachment theoretical perspective.

Feminist Therapy
Feminist therapy is an integrative approach to psychotherapy that focuses on gender and the particular challenges and stressors that women face as a result of bias, stereotyping, oppression, discrimination, and other factors that threaten their mental health.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is an evidence-based practice that can treat a wide population, including those with mood disorders, specific phobias, low self-esteem, etc. CBT is based on the idea that how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion) and how we act (behavior) all interact together. Specifically, our thoughts determine our feelings and our behavior.

Existential Therapy
Existential therapy focuses on free will, self-determination, and the search for meaning—often centering on you rather than on the symptoms. The approach emphasizes your capacity to make rational choices, in an effort to develop to your maximum potential, your identify, and your self-awareness.

Seeking Safety
Structured treatment geared towards developing new coping tools for individuals with trauma histories and/or PTSD. This modality explores the link between one’s trauma and substance abuse, and is also a non-12 step approach to treating addiction.

Cultural and Spiritual-informed Therapy
As a second-generation Iranian-Jew, I appreciate the importance of culturally and spiritually informed therapy. I am sensitive and seek to expand my cultural competency by learning from you about your unique background, culture, beliefs, values, and spiritual practices. I then use that information and apply it to your individual treatment.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT seeks to transform negative thoughts and behaviors through skill building, self-compassion, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Mind-Body Therapy
I believe in the strong connection between our mind’s and bodies. Therefore, we will work together to explore the connections between physical and emotional pains using a holistic approach to psychotherapy.
